The Heart of Tehillah Spontaneous Worship

T ehillah is an intimate form of praise involving new songs, singing from the Spirit, or spontaneous declarations of who God is and what God has done ( Purdy, 2019 ). These songs spring forth while engrossed in worship of God. Tehillah is one of the Hebrew characterizations of praise and occurs 57 times in the old testament ( See Bible Hub ). Tehillah is a praise from God. God initiates Tehillah in His worshippers. Psalm 22:25 and Isaiah 61:11 express God as the source and initiator of praise ( Tehillah ). Psalm 40:3 says, “And He has put a new song in my mouth, even praise ( Tehillah ) to our God: many shall see it, and fear, and shall trust in the LORD.”   Tehillah is one Hebrew praise word strongly knitted with the presence and identity of God ( Phillips, 2019 ).
